Homecoming Conference 2014

The conference titled, “Celebrating Success, Overcoming Obstacles, and Moving Forward”was held on January 7, 2014 at the Hofstra University Club. It was the fifth Home-coming conference conducted by The D’Brickashaw Ferguson Foundation. This year’s attendance was record breaking!!! The conference is designed to host college freshmen who have benefited from the previous year Skills and Drills conference as well as past Scholarship Recipients. These Scholarship Recipients discuss their first semester college experiences by highlighting both the surprises and obstacles of college life. Some students shared the following surprises: more diversity than expected; more success at work than anticipated; more independence, and amount of decision making than expected.  Obstacles or challenges shared included: staying focused; procrastinating; managing extra curricula; and coping with a new environment.

The students were ENERGIZED by motivational speeches by one of their peers, Antonio Regulier and by Leslie Maxie (former Olympic Track and Field Star) and the owner of the Maxie Media Group.

What a successful event! Check out the photo recap for more highlights from the event.
